Win a National Heads-Up Poker Championship Seat

January 2nd, 2009 by Robert Weston
Respond

Now in its fourth year the National Heads-Up Poker Championship provides players with a unique challenge – playing on-on-one against the best in the world until the last player is left standing. This is an invite only, 64-player tournament held in Las Vegas, and Pokerstars US players can join poker’s elite by qualifying online with PokerStars.

To win your seat at this exclusive event, simply enter the Pokerstars Round 1 freerolls. Get through those and the next stage is Round 2 - finish in the top 56 there and you will qualify for the Grand Final where there are two prize packages worth over $21,000 each ($20,000 tournament entry, four nights accommodation, and $1,000 for travel) up for grabs.

Last year, Alisha Kunze from Indiana qualified for free with PokerStars. She took her place at the Championship, and sat down to the one of the toughest tests in poker. Despite playing against some of the best players in the world, Alisha fought hard, but eventually perished when her Kings met Aces.

You could be sitting down for your first round match with a member of Team PokerStars Pros staring back at you across the felt. Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Joe Hachem, Vanessa Rousso and Greg Raymer are all regulars at the Championship, which is always highly competitive. The event will be staged at Caesar’s Palace, the venue for many historic sporting events, and the National Heads-Up Poker Championship lives up to that reputation.
How to qualify for the freerolls

PokerStars.com is running daily freeroll qualifier tournaments to win two National Heads-Up Poker Championship prize packages.
Round 1

Round 1 tournaments run every day from December 20 2008 - February 20 2009, at 19:00 and 22:00 ET. Finish in the top 200 places and you will move on to Round 2.

To find the tournament and register to play, open the PokerStars lobby, click ‘Tourney’ & ‘Regional’. The tournaments will be listed as ‘Heads-Up Qualifying – Round 1 (U.S. players)’.
Round 2

Round 2 tournaments will take place December 27, January 3, January 10, January 17, January 24, January 31, February 7, February 14 and February 21 at 16:00 ET. Players that finish in the top 56 positions will get to play in the Grand Final!

Last Chance: There will also be a bonus tournament providing a last chance to make it to the Grand Final. This one-off tourney will take place February 21 at 19:00 ET. Players finishing in spots 1-8 in this tournament will win seats to the Grand Final.
Grand Final

The Grand Final will take place on February 22, 2009 at 15:00 ET - with two National Heads-Up Championship prize packages awarded to the players finishing in first and second positions. The National Heads-Up Championship itself will take place March 5-8 2009.
Please Note:

* This promotion is only open to players from the U.S. Players may play in as many Round 1 tournaments as they wish, and as many Round 2 tournaments as they qualify for. Unused Round 2 tickets cannot be transferred, and they carry no value follow the end of the promotion. Players may only qualify for the Grand Final once. Extra seats won will be forfeited and awarded to the next eligible qualifier from the relevant Round 2 tournament. If you have already won a seat to the Grand Final, please do not continue playing, as additional seats have no value.
* Prize package winners must be able to travel between March 5-8 2009. Winners are responsible for booking their own travel arrangements to Las Vegas. If a winner is unable to attend the event their prize package will be forfeited with no consideration and awarded to the next eligible player.

Respond

On November 22nd at 2:05pm ET, Full Tilt Poker along with HoldemPokerChat.com will be running a charity tournament for Bad Beat on Cancer and the Prevent Cancer Foundation as part of our 24 hour poker marathon.

Cost for the tournament is $5 for the prize pool, plus an additional $5 for the charity. We have also added $150 to the prizepool. Full TIlt Poker pro Rafe Furst will be playing the tournament, and we hope many more of the Full Tilt pros will also be in attendance.

Details for the tournament are as follows:

November 22nd, 2:01pm ET
Full Tilt Poker
Private tournament tab: Bad Beat on Cancer
Password: charity
$5 plus $5 with $250 added to the prizepool*
Tournament #64689765
(Under the Private Tournaments tab)

* $250 has been added to this prizepool, $150 from Holdem Poker Chat and $100 from the kind people at Cardrunners.com. Remember you can trade in Full Tilt Poker points for free poker training from Cardrunners.com

Even if you can’t make it, please consider registering anyway since all proceeds will go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. I hope to see you all there.

About the Prevent Cancer Foundation:

The Prevent Cancer Foundation was started in 1985 when Founder and President Carolyn Aldige first understood the power of prevention to defeat cancer — and recognized that too few of the country’s resources were used to promote cancer prevention research or education. Today, it is one of the nation’s leading health organizations and has catapulted cancer prevention to prominence. Since its inception the Foundation has provided more than $74 million in support of cancer prevention and early detection research and education programs. CRPF peer-reviewed grants have been awarded to more than 250 scientists from more than 150 of the leading academic medical centers nationwide. This research has been pivotal in developing a body of knowledge that is the basis for important cancer prevention and early detection strategies.

About Bad Beat on Cancer:

Bad Beat on Cancer was started a few years ago by Rafe Furst and Phil Gordon to help fund cancer research and prevention – by playing poker. They ask professionals and amateurs alike to donate 1% of whatever they win at the WSOP. They’ve been extraordinarily successful over the last few years, raising over $1 million for a very worthy cause. It’s a very fiscally responsible organization, nearly 86 cents from every dollar goes to the cancer research programs that they’re funding. It’s a great organization and they have most of the world’s greatest players signed up.
